Does the Virtual Serial Port Kit (VSPK) only produce a temporary port? i.e. Do they disappear after a reboot - We need to be able to handle reboots etc. and completely ensure that all "virtual" ports connected to printer drivers etc. remain in place.

No. Once Virtual Serial Port Kit is installed and enabled all created virtual ports pairs are available for use constantly at each system startup.
