Com ports when disconnect instead of sign out

Hi, a customer reports that when they get disconnected and reconnect to the terminal server their pos terminal is given a new com port number. They also report that if they then sign out and sign in the com port number is reverted to the correct one (I admit I see a solution here). I am wondering if there is a way around the sign out/sign in in regards to the com issue?
