auto-release

Trying to share a printer hooked up to my server 2003 machine. I've check the simultaneous connect, but two people cannot connect at once. If someone is connected, then I cannot print, so I don't understand the functionality of this feature.

Is there a way that the program can automatically release the USB item so that others can use it. I'm trying to avoid having to teach my family to open the program connect then disconnect every time as i know someone will end up forgetting anyway.

Am I missing something?
