USB Device on Terminal Server is seen by all users

I installed trial USB for Remote Desktop Server Software on Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Services. My USB device was redirected to server on connection. But it become seen for all other users connected to this Terminal Server.

Is it possible to limit the access to my USB Device for me only?

Thank you.

Unfortunately there is no way to restrict the access to the redirected devices.
Anyone who access the server can see the redirected device because our software simulates as if it's directly plugged into the server. We are planning to implement a security feature in the near future. The only workaround now is to introduce virtual machines to your environment so every user would have it's own machine (not just an account on the server).
But I still hope that you can use our product even without this very feature.

Unfortunately there is no way to divide devices between sessions in current versions of Windows. It is explained by specific Windows limitations that are impossible to overcome.

Possibly there will be no such limitation in the next versions of Windows. In this case the feature you are interested in will be surely realized.

Soon we will release the line of solutions based on the new technology that will allow to virtualize the specific device in a remote session.

Please tell what device are you using with USB for Remote Desktop?

There are some devices that could not be accessed in Windows remote session
(smart card readers and PDAs are among them). And it is not possible to
overcome this limitation due to the windows specific configuration.

Please run a little test to determine does your device belong to this kind of
devices or not.
Just connect physically your device to the computer where the software of this

device is installed. Log off the user. Then launch the Remote Desktop
Connection from another machine and connect to the computer where your device
is physically connected. Try to work with this device in remote session. Check
if it has appeared in Device Manager.

Please let me know the results

Please try the following Fabulatech solutions:

USB over Network
info page: http://www.fabulatech.com/usb-over-network.html

USB for Remote Desktop

Neither of these solutions require a device driver to be installed on the side where the device is physically plugged in.

The current version works on a low level, so each user is able to see all the devices redirected to the server, however we have a test version that provides a session isolation. If you'd like to try it please email me at mike@fabulatech.com and I'll send you that version for your evaluation. I'd recommend you not to use Hotmail. Do you have any other email address? If yes, please send me the message using that alternative one.

We are also wanting a redirect (for Symbol barcode scanners connected to laptops) to Remote Desktop sessions that will not show up in everyone's session. Has anyone been able to do this?

Hi,

Is this still an issue nowadays or is it possible to completely isolate USB devices for each remote session?

Hi
We are using our own driver for usb device isolation within RD session.
It works in most cases. Please don't forget that this question is related to the specifics of the device driver and SW for device within RD session.
