USB for RDP with VMWare Windows 2003 Server x64

My configuration is as follows:

Local Machine (machine to which USB device is connected):
Windows XP SP2
USB for Remote Desktop Workstation (Version 2.6.2)

Remote Machine:
VMWare virtual machine, Windows 2003 Server x64
USB for Remote Desktop Server (Version 2.6.2)

I performed the following actions:
1) Connected the USB device to the local machine.
2) Redirected the device using the workstation software. It displayed "Ready for Redirection".
3) Started a Remote Desktop session, connecting to the remote machine.
4) Started the Server console within the Remote Desktop session.

The server console showed my USB device as connected, and was displaying the correct name of the device.

However, I cannot use the device. When I viewed the Device Manager, the Device Manager showed the device as an "Unknown Device". When I selected "Properties" for the device, it indicated that no driver was installed.

Since the device is plug and play, I would expect the driver to be installed shortly after the device was connected.

The server console is apparently recognizing the device, but not actually redirecting the device. The driver is not being installed.

When connecting the USB device to the local machine, the driver installs automatically, as expected.

The plug and play service is running on the remote machine.

Can you please provide some troubleshooting advice?

Thank you very much.

Please try to run RDP in console session:

mstsc /console

Your device should act just like on the local machine.
