Title: Trial error: -4 (when using 4.2.x license key)
Post by dcatt_rosettastone on Jun 11th, 2012, 11:55am
UPDATED: wrong version noted for license key (sorry).

I have a 4.2.x license key that I am trying to utlize with the Linux USB over Network Server 4.7.2 (for Linux) and I get error: Trial error: -4

I am assuming I may need a 4.7.x license key instead?  My license.key (ftusbnet.key) is in the /etc directory.

I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04

Snippet of the bash shell output...

example@localhost:/opt/ftusbnet/sbin$ ./ftusbnetd -d
D: 1339433564: trial_embedding_attempt: trial warning: ret=-124
Usb Over Network (for Linux) version: 4.7.2 (compatible with 4.7.0 or newer)

Your 1-year update subscription embedded into the license expired 167 days ago. This means that you are not allowed to use one of the most recent versions of the software. You can use the old version unlimited period of time, however in order to be able to use the latest version you should purchase another 1-year update subscription.

Mike,

I accidentally called out the wrong version of the product for the license key.  After talking with someone else, it seems that my company started using your product at version 4.2.x (not sure where I got 3.5.x).

I guess this makes no difference and your comment still applies.

I also have this problem.
I've used the trial version 4.7.2 on Linux successfully, but after installing license key into /etc/ftusbnet.key, I get the following error message

# /opt/ftusbnet/sbin/ftusbnetd -d -k /etc/ftusbnet.key

Hi,

"Trial error: -4" means that key was not accepted by the daemon. Usually it happens when the key is incorrect or it does not supported by this version of the program.

Please contact me via email ( support@fabulatech(dot)com ) and let me know your order number. I will check your key on my computer and then will provide you with instructions what to do next.
