Secured Port for NAT

Dears,

we are running a Windows Server 2003 inside a private network. The network is connected via router (NAT) to the public internet.
At the server we like to connect some USB dongle for our licensed software. A VPN session to this network or to the server shall be avoided.

On idea is, to open a port forwarding from the public internet to the USB-over-network-server.
I assume that in this case that everyone in the public internet can access the dongles who is aware of the forwarded port number.
Is there a solution, that to secure the port? For example, only with a password a SSL secured connection is established to the USB-over-netwerk-server.

Thilo,

USB over Network has SSL security option, see here:

So, you can use your own certificate to protect the data. Feel free to download the trial version on our website to check this functionality:

Mike,

some questions, since the steps to establish such a SSL connection are currently not clear for me:
a) How to generate a PEM? With openssl?
b) On the USB server will install the one certificate (private and public key). Which things I have to install on the computer which accesses the USB-Server? Do I have to create a second certificate?
c) Is there anywhere a procedure, which describes how to install such a SSL connection with your USB software?
