Kodak I40 USB Scanner

Attempting to get the software configured correctly and having some difficulties.
 
Current Setup:
XP Pro machine
Kodak i40 USB Scanner
USB over Network workstation edition
Machine RDP's to another machine across a VPN tunnel.
Kodak shows yellow exclamation point and states error.  no data is given
 
ideas on why the Kodak is erroring?

Sometimes this issue may occur. The reason for that is that  
as soon as you plug your USB device it is taken up by Windows.
That's why Windows holds the device and interferes into sharing
process. To solve this issue please try to enable 'Auto-sharing"
mode (USBnet Server-> settings -> preferences -> auto-sharing).  
It will share your device before Windows takes it up. Try to do  
it and please inform me about the result.
